The Hanuman Chalisa (हनुमान चालीसा) is a 40-verse devotional hymn composed by the poet-saint Goswami Tulsidas in the 16th century in Awadhi. It praises the virtues and deeds of Lord Hanuman and is recited daily by millions of devotees worldwide.
॥ दोहा ॥
श्रीगुरु चरन सरोज रज, निज मनु मुकुरु सुधारि।
श्री गुरु के चरण-कमलों की धूलि से अपने मन रूपी दर्पण को निर्मल करकेCleansing the mirror of my mind with the dust of the lotus feet of my Guru
बरनऊँ रघुबर बिमल जसु, जो दायकु फल चारि॥
रघुकुल श्रेष्ठ श्री राम के निर्मल यश का वर्णन करता हूँ, जो चारों फल देने वाला हैI sing the pure glory of Lord Rama, bestower of the four fruits of life
बुद्धिहीन तनु जानिके, सुमिरौं पवन-कुमार।
अपने आप को बुद्धिहीन जानकर, मैं पवनपुत्र हनुमान जी का स्मरण करता हूँKnowing myself to be without wisdom, I invoke Hanuman, Son of the Wind
बल बुद्धि बिद्या देहु मोहिं, हरहु कलेस बिकार॥
हे प्रभु! मुझे बल, बुद्धि और विद्या दीजिए और मेरे क्लेश तथा विकारों को हरिएGrant me strength, wisdom and knowledge; remove my afflictions and impurities
ये दोनों दोहे मंगलाचरण हैं — तुलसीदास जी पहले गुरु की कृपा से अपने मन को शुद्ध करते हैं, फिर अपनी अज्ञानता स्वीकार कर हनुमान जी से उनका यश-गान करने की शक्ति माँगते हैं।These two Dohas are the invocation (mangalacharana) — Tulsidas first purifies his mind through the Guru's grace, then humbly acknowledges his own limitations and asks Hanuman for the capacity to sing his glory.

पवनतनय संकट हरन, मंगल मूरति रूप।
हे पवनपुत्र! आप संकट हरने वाले और मंगल की साक्षात मूर्ति हैं।O son of the Wind! You are the remover of all troubles and the very embodiment of auspiciousness.
राम लखन सीता सहित, हृदय बसहु सुर भूप॥
देवताओं के राजा! राम, लक्ष्मण और सीता के साथ मेरे हृदय में निवास करें।O king of the gods! Please reside in my heart along with Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita.
यह समापन दोहा तुलसीदास जी की परम भक्ति-भावना का प्रकटीकरण है — वे हनुमान जी से प्रार्थना करते हैं कि जिस प्रकार आप समस्त संकटों के नाशक और मंगल के स्वरूप हैं, उसी प्रकार प्रभु राम, लक्ष्मण और माता सीता के साथ मेरे हृदय में सदा विराजमान रहें।This closing Doha is the final expression of Tulsidas's devotion — he prays to Hanuman, the destroyer of all difficulties and the embodiment of auspiciousness, to reside eternally in his heart together with Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and Mother Sita.
